This area is a gateway to many fishing lakes in the Arrowhead region and the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Lake Superior offers lake trout as well as various species of salmon. Enjoy a leisurely day on the big lake. Silver Bay offers a 5-star marina, that is easily accessible to large watercraft or your small fishing boat. Gas and navigation maps are also available from the marina manager. When you are not out on the lake, enjoy one of the many picnic areas and fire rings accessible to the public overlooking our beautiful expanse of lakeshore and the marina.

Our many nearby inland lakes are filled with walleye, northern pike, small and largemouth bass, panfish, trout, and splake. Almost all our streams offer a variety of trout species, and support salmon spawning in the spring and fall.

Want a more rugged “earthy” experience? Just minutes outside of Silver Bay, enjoy spectacular trout fishing at Silver Bay’s very own twin lakes, Bear and Bean. An exceptional rainbow trout lake, enjoy fishing among towering cliff faces in this peaceful and picturesque location. Accessible only by hiking, cross country skiing, or ATV trails, you may park at the Recreational Parking lot located on Outer Drive / Forest Hwy 11, which is two miles from Hwy 61 and Silver Bay.

If you are looking for a lake that can you can utilize your trolling motor from shore to shore, Lax Lake is another popular location. Situated a scenic 6 miles west of Silver Bay, Lax Lake offers a paved parking area and boat launch on the northwest end of the lake. Need bait? The nearby town of Finland offers bait shops to keep you out on the lake enjoying a full day of exceptional fishing.
